Why does santa sneak into ppls houses at night and steal there cookies?

santas ways of life: sleep untill christmas while elfs build stuff, next get everything in a big bag and get into a sleigh with flying raindeer, go to every house in the world to give preasnts (isnt it summer in china and africa), break into everybodys houses and steal there cookies, and go back to the north pole in 1 night. ok now whoever made up santa did amazing cz hes been in the christmas tridition for years but was santa even real at 1 point? well ovisly he didnt have flying raindeer. i love santa and all (i know hes not real) but does he really have to take my cookies every year? does he know about dieting?
